What an amazing library! They have some books for sale, and a lot of clean bookshelves with all sorts of topics! A great resource because you can get a free library card. They have printing, computers, and many other things I need to check out!

The first class library of Wichita, at McLean and 1st Street. I believe this learning center is a true treasure to the community. The building is magnificent and has two floors of books, art, and technology that are all incredible resources for the public. There is a wide variety of spots for studying and reading, and the second floor offers a nice patio area for the beautiful days in town. There is a wide range of computers available for guests to use and there are many knowledgeable staff members that can assist with the technology. I commend the city for this new library and recommend it to all who can visit it.

The library has much to offer! Sitting in downtown Wichita this library is big. There is more to the library than you know. I love all the sitting areas which invite you to read.

I am writing to formally report a highly unprofessional and disrespectful interaction I experienced with a security guard named Steve at the Wichita Advanced Learning Center Library. During my visit, I was in the process of finishing a time-sensitive screen printing project for my daughter’s birthday this weekend. This was not a casual task—I had already made multiple trips across town, including leaving to pick her up from practice and returning specifically to complete this project. As you may know, screen printing is not something that can be abruptly stopped without compromising the work. While I was actively working to wrap things up, Steve approached me in a manner that was unnecessarily aggressive, dismissive, and completely lacking in basic respect. His tone, communication style, and overall demeanor were far below what should be expected from someone in a public-facing security role. Rather than de-escalating or communicating professionally, he spoke in a way that was confrontational and degrading. As someone with over five years of experience in law enforcement, I can say with full confidence that his conduct would not meet even the most basic standards expected in a professional security or public service position. Communication, respect, and situational awareness are foundational in these roles—and his behavior reflected none of those qualities. What is equally concerning is that this does not appear to be an isolated incident. I was informally warned by others that this individual has a pattern of disrespectful behavior toward patrons. That points to a broader issue that needs to be addressed at a management level. I fully understand the importance of closing procedures and maintaining order within the facility. However, there is a right way and a wrong way to communicate with the public. Speaking to people with dignity and professionalism typically results in cooperation. The approach taken in this situation did the exact opposite. I chose to use your facility in good faith, as a local resource, and was extremely disappointed by how I was treated during what should have been a positive experience—especially given the personal significance of the project I was completing for my daughter. I strongly encourage you to review this matter, address the behavior, and ensure that staff—especially those in security roles—are properly trained in professional communication and public interaction. No patron should feel disrespected or belittled while using your services. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter. Sincerely, Chris Story

The Wichita Public Library is a great place! The layout and decor is awesome! My grandson loves the children's area. He likes the way they display their books. The children's staff made his experience very fun and quick for him to find the books he was looking for! Keep up the great service! Thank you!!
