If you are traveling between Taipei and Southern California, look no further than Ontario International Airport (ONT). I recently flew with Starlux Airlines from Taipei (TPE) to Ontario, and the entire experience was a breath of fresh air compared to the usual chaos of larger international hubs. The convenience of using ONT for travel to Taiwan cannot be overstated. While most people instinctively head to LAX, choosing Ontario saved me hours of frustration. Because the airport is smaller and more efficiently designed, I wasn't stuck in endless traffic just trying to reach the terminal. The arrival experience was incredibly smooth. After a fantastic long-haul flight on Starlux—which, by the way, offers incredible service and a stunning cabin—landing at ONT felt like a "boutique" arrival. I was off the plane and through the international arrivals area in record time. What really stood out, however, was the TSA experience. We all know airport security can be the most stressful part of a trip, but the TSA officers at Ontario were remarkably friendly and professional. The lines were short, and the process was lightning-quick. It’s rare to encounter security staff who actually make you feel welcome, but ONT pulls it off.For anyone living in the Inland Empire, San Gabriel Valley, or Orange County, ONT is the premier choice. You get world-class airlines like Starlux and direct access to Taiwan without the "big airport" headaches. The ease of parking, the quick walking distances between gates, and the efficient customs process make this my new go-to airport for all my Asia-bound trips. I’ll definitely be booking this route again!
Along with SNA, this is one of my preferred airport options whenever I visit the Los Angeles area. It allows you to avoid the heavy traffic of larger hubs, offering quick access to rental cars and significantly shorter TSA lines. Each terminal at ONT is decently sized and features lounges like Aspire. While lounge access is capped at three hours, it is still a far better experience than waiting by a crowded gate. The only downside can be the airport shuttle drivers; the service is highly inconsistent, ranging from incredibly friendly and welcoming to completely indifferent. Overall, the airport is in an excellent location, making it highly convenient whether you are visiting LA, OC, or heading up to the ski resorts during the season.
This is a small airport compared to places like John F. Kennedy International Airport, LaGuardia Airport, or even Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. Ontario International Airport feels much quieter and more compact. I probably got lucky this time since there were fewer passengers and visitors, so everything went very smoothly — from customs to getting to the domestic terminal. The whole process was quick and easy. It was also quite cold inside, powerful air conditioning which added to the slightly bare, no-frills feeling of the place.
An ideal size airport. Big enough to have international flights and many domestic destinations (for sure, looking forward to having more) and small enough to avoid ultra long waiting line. The two terminals (plus the tiny international arrival building) split the passenger quantity so that each one so far has not been overloaded. However, if you hope to take the late night fights to overseas destinations, the experience will be totally different. You might see multi-hundred passengers are waiting for checked bag drop off. Two hours before the boarding time might be the minimum secured time for you to catch the flight if you also have checked bags.
Ontario Airport was a very good experience for us. We flew fron Ontario to Seattle and it was a stress-free travel as compared to LAX. They have Dunkin' Donuts on this airport as well couple of other food options including pizza and salads. If you want easy to navigate and hassle free travel experience fly from this airport.
