Went on New Years. They had a nice exhibit on Traditional Lion Dance on the ground floor and a free exhibit interactive exhibit on the 2nd. Spent over an hour here and it was very informative. My son enjoyed the kopi making video game on the 2nd floor exhibit.

First time going to SCCC. Surprised by how big it is. Only inconvenience was the performance I am attending is on level 9, hence a need to wait for the lifts. Thankfully they have sufficient lifts to bring the crowd up. Alternatively, one can take the escalator all the way up. One can enjoy the view while riding the escalator.

good coverage of Chinese culture, especially some traditions related to Lunar NEW YEAR at Singapore. There are interactive activities for visitors...a visitor can do a simple registration with a wrist band. The sensor on the wrist records the interactions, and the visitors get a summary at the end of the visit. It is educational and intresting! Highly recommend.

My companion, Kitty, and I recently had the distinct pleasure of visiting the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre, and we were most favourably impressed by the 'Singapo人: Discovering Chinese Singaporean Culture' exhibition. Having approached the visit with modest expectations, we were both pleasantly surprised by the interactive, and thoroughly engaging nature of the displays. We gained a considerable appreciation for the diverse Chinese dialect groups within Singapore, and their multifaceted contributions to the rich tapestry of our society. The exhibition is thoughtfully structured, and Zone 3 proved particularly captivating. Through engaging, interactive games, we gained a deeper understanding of the nuances of Singaporean vernacular, learning how various dialects pronounce specific terms, and how the Malay, Chinese, and Hokkien languages have elegantly intertwined over time. We discovered, for instance, that the ubiquitous term 'kopi-o' is, in fact, a clever linguistic portmanteau, combining elements of both Malay, and Hokkien. The kopi making game was a particular highlight, offering an illuminating insight into the diverse varieties of coffee available, and their familiar nomenclature within Singaporean culture. We even expanded our lexicon with novel terms, such as Dai kay hao, a previously unfamiliar expression used to describe the particularly robust, or 'thick', variant of this beloved beverage. It was truly fascinating to witness how our unique Singaporean cultural identity has evolved over time, shaped by influences both internal, and external. We also greatly enjoyed learning about the diverse tapestry of Singaporean cuisine, the demographic composition of our society, and the historical occupations of various ethnic groups, gaining a more nuanced understanding of our shared heritage. The exhibition provides a comprehensive overview of Chinese Singaporean culture, taking approximately 45 minutes to an hour to fully appreciate, if one wishes to engage thoughtfully with each of the informative displays. Knowledgeable tour guides are readily available for those seeking a more structured, and in-depth exploration of the exhibits. Upon arrival, visitors are provided with an RFID wrist tag, which can be utilized to answer interactive questions at designated stations throughout the exhibition, culminating in a personalized report summarizing one's discoveries. In Zones 1, and 2, we learned about how Singapore's geography, history, politics, and economics have uniquely shaped Chinese Singaporean culture. We also deepened our understanding of the traditional Chinese cultural elements that continue to resonate within our community, and the important values passed down through generations. Beyond the 'Singapo人' exhibition, we were also invited to explore the Chinese Medication exhibition on Level 6, offering a fascinating glimpse into traditional healing practices. Finally, we ascended to the rooftop, where we were greeted by delightful Chinese New Year decorations, providing a festive, and visually appealing conclusion to our visit. Indeed, this is an exceptional cultural institution, deserving of high praise.

We enjoyed visiting the SINGAPO人 exhibition and had fun revisiting familiar items and experiences from childhood days. It has been a well curated exhibit of everything Singapore and Chinese. Every visitor gets a wrist band that has a chip, allowing them to interact with the exhibit like polls. A custom card reflecting the guest's personality (eg. Explorer) can be printed towards the end.
