We got a suite on the first floor. We knew they were under construction when we booked, but lumber and loose screws were left on the side walk near the entrance. The front trash can was also overflowing. After we arrived we opened the curtains to a muddy mess cover with trash an a partially exposed PVC pipe randomly shooting water. Luckily I was distracted by the buld up of cobwebs in the corner of the window. The room had a refrigerator, but all the shelves and door pockets were missing. A random LAN cable coming through the ceiling and scotch taped to the door frame. There was a sign on the wall instructing us to run the hot and cold water for two minutes before using the tub. We did and it took 10 minutes for that water to drain even though the drain was open when we started it. When we finally got it filled and turned it on one of the jet nozzles immediately flew off. The fitted sheet would not stay on the stone like matress and there was a build-up on mold and mildew in the shower. We checked in online and had no contact with the staff so I can't offer an opinion on that. All for the low price of $204 on a Sunday night.

I'm going to start with the good stuff. Staff was really nice. I had a different hotel leave me without a room or refund and this hotel stepped up and helped me out. The staff was warm, friendly and treated me with respect. The free breakfast the kids loved. They also liked the pool. Something in the pool needed fix and I brought it to the front desk and they fixed it right away. We had two tornado warnings and the hotel did a good job telling us to go down stairs but staff was a little unsure of where we should go. Room for improvement. Now the negative stuff. Room was clean and big but very worn. Rips in sofa and head boards were peeling, etc. But I could also tell that they were going to remodel. They had trailers outside and some plastic on windows were they just painted. So I could overlook all that stuff. To me having a nice staff was more important.

The place was being worked on while my friends and I stayed there. I stayed on the third floor on a king sized bed and friends stayed on the second on two queens. Their room did not smell like smoke mine did or some kind of lingering unpleasant odor. The place is pretty grubby. The shower was low on gallons per minute pressure, so that took longer than normal. The pool, with two towels floating in the bottom and an off smell in the pool area was only a pool one could look at and imagine swimming in. The amount of work the place needs is pretty extensive. Despite this, the place was fully booked Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Parking was tough on those nights with people moving cones out of the way so they could park their cars somewhere near the hotel. I'm not super knowledgable about Kalamazoo, but the place is a bit on the the outskirts of town - maybe 12 minutes from the person I was visiting. The staff were lovely and doing their best, but the place is suffering from long term neglect. The staff are the best thing this place currently has going for it, and I hope their efforts are rewarded with taking care of a guests in a hotel that reflects their efforts rather than one that taxes them. If the price is less than other hotels, I'd tolerate it, but it was not the kind of place one looks around and exclaims, "this is nice!"

This is definitely not what you would expect out of a Hampton inn. It’s a 2 star at best. Idk why it’s categorized a 3. There’s shipping containers in the lot, so I assume it’s being renovated, but no, I saw nothing really new inside. Lobby is nice and what you’d expect, but I’m not staying in the lobby. Anyway, parking lot is full of potholes, landscaping area out front is overgrown and had rotted plywood full sheets and misc trash that looked like it’s been there for a long time, wood was disintegrating. My room door had pry marks from forced entry, metal frame dented and wood chipped up badly. Immediately noticed like a burnt hair, maybe plastic smell in room. Still same headboard peeling like others said. I got the upgraded room with kitchenette, still has tiny fridge, and the ice machine is out of order so I cant store the food and freezer stuff I got for the week. Pillow cases and towels are shockingly yellow. No bleach used. Everything is either stained or just beat up and very outdated. Never seen a Hampton in this poor of shape, I didn’t know it was allowed. Hardly anyone here even tho everything else is pretty much sold out due to a wrestling tournament. Just note, I didn’t notice anything dirty as in, it seemed like the maid did their job other than no bleach used on towels. No bugs, I checked. It’s more like an $80 room basically. I’m a diamond member, so that tells you I’ve stayed in a ton of Hilton properties. This one is easily the worst. Oh and the room door slams so violently it shakes the room. Loudest door slam I’ve witnessed in a hotel, I even caught it with my foot to slow it down and it still slammed extremely loud. Hard to open, the springs are ridiculous. I’m just glad there were no neighbors keeping me up with their loud doors slamming. No keurig, no decaf in the lobby and the regular coffee was barely warm. I’m here in town for 6 weeks and checked out of this one after one night. Another hotel will make the extra $3,600

Would rate 0 stars if I could. Avoid this place at all costs. Where to start? Business traveler with over 15 years of Hilton stays. No indication at booking that the place was under construction. Filthy conditions throughout with plenty of construction debris on my floor. Horrible water pressure, hole in the shower ceiling. Towels, wash cloths and bedding all had a yellowish color - sure they were probably clean but just gave you the bad vibe. Air conditioning in the lobby common area didn't work at all. Breakfast? Yeah right, what a joke. While I'm sure each hotel is indpendently owned and operated, Hilton may want to do a QA check on this one to remind the owners of the standards of a Hilton property.
