I have travel then entire country for a decade for my job. I have stayed at many dozen Holiday Inns. I have probably left 2 or 3 reviews in my lifetime. At Check-in I was informed there is a $5.00 “parking fee” which seems like nothing but exploitation and greed. This is not in a busy downtown area or a lot that would be used for anything but staying at the hotel. $140/night but they need to make sure they snag an extra $5 from everyone that decides to stay there. The “mini-mart” was embarrassingly empty. One lone mini pizza in the freezer. A few random bags of chips and a handful of candy bars. My room was mostly clean. But it appeared that whoever did the cleaning was in a rush and that never inspires confidence in the room actually being clean. The shower grate wasn’t in place. The shower itself seemed dirty. There was hair in the hand towel. Bed was haphazardly made. Front desk was not welcoming at all and maybe said three words. Individually, none of it is that big of a deal. But all together, it is obvious this is a poorly managed hotel. The extra $5 parking fee was the icing on the cake. $5 isn’t significant. It is the principle. It feels like a very slimey practice and a slap in the face to customers. If I didn’t check-in at 11:30pm I would have turned around and booked a different hotel over the parking fee. I will never be staying here or at any of the owners hotels ever again.
Paying over 600$ for the weekend you'd expect to have a more pleasant stay. The hotel charged extra fees they don't tell you about when you pay online. Then I got a room with a broken toilet that wouldn't flush. The staff was aware before I checked in because the maintenance guy knocked on our door asking about it and said he would come back but then was at the front desk talking and joking hours later and acted like he didn't see me. Then left and I had to call and the guy with gold teeth brought me a plunger and never came back. I plunged it myself and left the plunger at the door the toilet never did flush right. And then my key kept deactivating every time I would go outside. The pool wasnt enjoyable either if you can even get to it with the wet marble floors with no wet floor signs. People were having pizza parties and leaving doors propped open making the pool area too cold for my kids to enjoy. Half of the breakfast machines including coffee machines were "broken". And don't count on a decent view... There's nothing but highway and construction with portapotties for your views.
Save your money. The photos may look nice, but the quality of the hotel is awful. They charge extra “money-grab” fees at check-in, including a $5 per day, per room amenity fee. We stayed for 6 days with 3 rooms total, so those fees added up quickly, do the math. On the first night, the bed frame in one of our rooms collapsed and broke. When we informed the front desk, the employee’s first response was, “Is that the wobbly bed?” That made it seem like the staff already knew the bed was an issue and still rented the room out anyway. Even after switching rooms, the new bed frame was still crooked, and parts of it stuck out past the mattress. Both coffee machines broke during our stay, and only one elevator worked the entire time. The washer and dryer also cost extra to use, despite already paying the amenity fee. Housekeeping would take our dirty towels but would not replace them unless we specifically asked. The breakfast looked and tasted like it had been made the night before and left sitting out. The room keys constantly stopped working for no reason. I probably had to replace mine six different times during the stay. Our room also had a terrible odor upon arrival, like something had been left rotting under the bed. There were sagging spots in the hallway floor on the 4th floor, which was concerning. The pool room door would not unlock, so we had to track down an employee and prop the door open with a towel so it would not latch again. One of the employees was even smoking a cigarette inside the building while doing laundry in the laundry room. While the staff was generally friendly, the hotel itself is not maintained nearly as well as the photos make it appear. There also seemed to be a constant flow of people coming and going who did not appear to be hotel guests. Half the time, it was difficult to tell who actually worked there and who was simply hanging around with employees.
Have stayed here many times over the years. This hotel is always one that myself and my family book when in the Kalamazoo area. The staff is always so friendly and welcoming. We have never had an issue. Room are clean, and the breakfast is great. If you are traveling thru Kalamazoo or in town for an event at WMU, this is a great hotel to stay at.
These are good people! Very welcoming and helpful. This one is good for business and everyday travels or longer stays. The front desk employees have always been the UTMOST supportive and helpful! Owner is a very genuine person and is good to the employees and customers. Would definitely recommend these two hotels over most any in the Kalamazoo area!
