There were several problems with the room upon check in. 1. The door would not securely close without a lot of effort 2. The wall by the bed was really dirty- dried chunks of something. 3. There was food left in the fridge. 4. The shower drain was slow causing a several inch deep pool to form during the shower. I got a text upon check in welcoming me and asking that I let them know if they can help. It took more than an hour for a response and then it was only the food in the refrigerator that was addressed. It was clear from all of our interactions during the 4 night stay that the hotel was not staffed appropriately overnight. I gave the staff the opportunity to address the concerns the next morning- and to be fair they did move us to another room which did not have the same issues. It was clean and everything functioned satisfactorily. The AC was noisy and smelly when first turned on but after it ran for a bit it settled down. This hotel is listed as a 3 star. I think that is not accurate. This is a very good TWO star hotel. The facility is a little run down. Lots of wear marks on furniture, walls, elevators etc. It is clean (after moving to the new room) and quiet and the beds were comfortable. The price definitely reflected the quality. If listed as a Two star hotel it would have been within expectations. Breakfast was standard but it was exactly the same each day. They are using propane space heaters in the space so the lobby always has a bit of a weird exhaust smell to it. Housekeeping did NOT come at all during our stay. There was no policy listed so I don't know if that was intentional or not. We did end up running out of toilet paper and toiletries so it would have been nice to have the room stocked at least once in our 4 night stay. The neighborhood around the hotel is sketchy. There were a lot of people walking around seemingly unhoused. I was solicited for money more than once. That being said there were not any safety issues and the proximity to downtown and the Century II convention center was OUTSTANDING.
They will give away your room. I showed up last night for my reservation which had already been charged to my credit card. The man behind the desk said "sorry, you didn't show up by 1am and it's 1:20am so we rebooked your rooms already". Mind you, I have my elderly father in a wheelchair behind me because we are driving cross country to move him to a new assisted living facility. I did not get a phone call or an email warning me about losing the reservation and none of the fine print while booking mentioned anything about a 1am deadline. I was told there was nothing he could do and I would have to leave. Since it is the weekend of Wichita River fest, literally every single other hotel was fully booked. We had to get back in the car and drive another 2.5 hours to find a hotel with vacancy. I can't believe the lack of care or compassion for a family showing up WITH A RESERVATION and being sent away. I've never experienced something like this.
Weird smell - possibly old stale smoke smell?! Torn bed skirt. Ice machine broken on our floor with no sign indicating it was out of service or that you needed to go to the 2nd or 4th floor for the ice machine. Wi-Fi was not secure so that seemed sketchy to use. Beds are tiny - no way they are full size. My daughter is 5'8" and her feet hung off the end of the bad. Pillows not comfortable and no options - all were the exact same and to thick.
Location is the only thing that this place has going for it. I want to give it more because I truly believe that the staff was really nice. It's just that at this point in time they fell short of meeting any expectation that is needed when you stay at a hotel. Upon my arrival, I walked into the very cold lobby. Apparently we're cutting costs by not having the heat going downstairs at all and I get that but you would expect it to be a little bit more warm and inviting. The room I was given was 607. When I got to the room you could hear it from outside the door. The heater/ air conditioner was so loud. The only relief is when I would turn it off and it would get cold. I did call down to the front desk and they told me it'd be about 10 minutes and maintenance would be by. Almost an hour later. I get a knock at the door and the maintenance band goes. Yeah that's not going to work. They're going to switch you rooms. Now mind you, while I was waiting in this room for an hour, I noticed that it wasn't very clean but I didn't see any bugs or obvious signs of hair and the sink and stuff of that nature. So it is what it is. When I got to the second room which was exactly one floor above me, the room was quieter and the air conditioner/heater worked perfectly. But this room obviously hadn't been used in a while because it was dirty. I have pictures crumbs, flower petals, and who knows what else around the bed. The refrigerator and it doesn't work. It's plugged in but the knob is broken off. I eventually got the little thing to move to kick on the refrigerator but it never came on at all. I called down to the front desk and they never ever return the phone call or got back with me the entire weekend about the refrigerator. For a handicap accessible room it was laid out spaciously but the shower needs a lot of work. It leaks everywhere and water goes on the floor more than in the tub. When I stay at a place for the first time I give them the opportunity to fix something before I make a negative comment. Since I was ignored for the rest of the weekend, I feel it's appropriate to share my experiences here. The reason I booked this property was because I had points and it was close to the event that I was going to Saturday night. I don't know if I would stay at this location again, unless they address some of the issues. I feel as though that it was a waste of my points and that is very sad.
No restaurant or happy hour as advertised. One towel per person. Coverlet stained. Large amount of young people entering from the side door with one key card. Sketchy - scary - would NOT recommend. Person at front desk could not direct us to a place for sit down dining. Traveling through only for business. Do not stay here!
