Over all not a bad experience but there are a few short comings potential guests should be aware of. There is no hot tub at this hotel. Despite a hot tub being listed as one of the amenities on site. The hot tub presumably broken and the hotel didn’t want to invest in repairing it instead covered it over with a deck. If you are coming for winterlude and are spending the entire day out doors in freezing temps a warm hot tub would be welcome at the end of the day. A better managed and more classy hotel would have replaced the hot tub and not covered it over. The rooms are clean for the most part but the heat didn’t work well no matter how high we set it the room was cold. Also the carpets are dirty due to winter and salt. Again a better property would ensure clean carpets in the rooms after each guest checks out. Somewhat understandable because it’s winter but could be done better. A small gripe but there was no magnified mirror in the bathroom. For those who wear contact lenses a magnified mirror is a must and most hotels provide one. Lastly the breakfast was 28 dollars and was mediocre at best. Steamed sausages and cold powdered eggs. Any good breakfast chain would have been much better for half the price. The hotel is great for its location but falls short of the price and its star rating. For the money the Weston or the Marriott would be better options down town.
My room (King bed with sofa) was clean, comfortable, and had a good layout, although I wish there were microwaves in the suites. The hotel itself was fine, although they are doing some renovations in the lobby, so it's a bit unfinished looking. The service was okay, but I was not offered any water bottles or even the classic DoubleTree warm cookie. Breakfast was not included with my room. $300 for one night should include breakfast (extra $28), especially since I've stayed in a full suite in the nearby Homewood Suites with a full, decadent breakfast, for $250/night. Otherwise it was a fine stay for a short time. Not sure if I'd stay here on longer visits as I like to be able to bring food back to my room and heat it up in the evening.
During our stay, we were disappointed with the cleanliness of the room. We found a hair tie on the floor, which we reported to staff. We were assured that housekeeping would address it, but it was never cleaned during our two-day stay. The carpet also needed better cleaning. Additionally, the soundproofing between rooms is poor, and we could clearly hear our neighbors. While the location of the hotel is convenient, the overall condition and maintenance of the rooms leave significant room for improvement.
Hotel is clean, service is good and the staff is nice. Parking is a disaster. You have to use a public parking garage to which your parking ticket will fail. The hotel was good about issuing a new ticket each time it would not scan but that does not save the wasted time. Then you can sit at the gate and wait to leave when your ticket does not scan again and wait for someone to let you out. We watched multiple people stand in line at the hotel with the same issue. This is not an isolated problem. Good luck!
Refrigerator did not work. I requested assistance with this but during my stay it was not fixed. The room has a safe but I would have much preferred a microwave. The parking is not on site and is confusing to get to. The location of the hotel is adjacent to the Rideau Shopping Centre. This area is now quite run down. I will not be rebooking there.
