Jason Turnera week agoI stayed at the Menger while I was on vacation and it was great. For a history buff like me it was like spending the night in a museum. The interior was very nice and very old too. You could tell by the creaking floorboards under the carpet,but I didn't see any ghosts, lol. I liked the pool and courtyard and loved the old Menger bar. Jeff the bartender was great. My room was cozy and comfortable, as was my bed. I loved being so close ,(walking distance) to the Alamo and mall. I would definitely recommend a stay here and I will next time I'm in San Antonio.
Haley Stonera month agoWe booked a five day stay here due to it being historic and the pictures looked great. Well the inside when you enter is beautiful, that was literally about it. Well got our room, requested a king bed and it definitely in no way at all was the size of a king bed. Our first night the room temp was 78, called the front desk and they gave a box fan, helped not at all and we got moved to a different room and it was the exact same issue. We did end up getting a full refund and went elsewhere. There is a sign on front desk stating air issues due to being older property, but no where on any booking sites or their website. Had I known this, I definitely would have never booked here. Also a family member called requesting something offered on YOUR website for us as a surprise and even though it was offered as a something you could purchase they were told no, they cant do that? The person this was told to is also a travel agent who will definitely not recommend your hotel. The GM was the one she spoke with and it was voiced the GM was zero help and very rude. It's sad because this property has alot of potential, however I believe some of the people that are in management roles are a major problem for this property. Honestly overall the staffing wasn't friendly at all. The location is great.
Cheryl Marr4 weeks agoBeautiful historic hotel in a great location on the San Antonio Riverwalk. We could see the Alamo and the amazing mall by the Riverwalk from our room. It's almost a maze inside to get to certain rooms. Luckily for me, I have an ESA dog and she always went straight back to our room. Many famous people have stayed there, including Teddy Roosevelt and Gutzon Borglum, who created the magnificent Mount Rushmore. He worked on his design plans while staying here. The staff throughout was very friendly and helpful. We would definitely love to stay there again.
Cate B.2 months agoWe enjoyed the hotel overall. It’s dated but pretty. The room had a nice big fan and was cool. We booked a queen bed and I think it was not a standard queen if it was a queen. Very cozy! The water pressure was pretty rough but I do sort of expect that in an old hotel. My only real complaint is that there are basically NO toiletries-not even bar soap. We got one small body wash container that looked like it had been used previously. I brought most of my own stuff so it was okay but I had to use my personal body wash for hand soap. Even Motel 6 provides soaps! Otherwise we had a lovely stay and the location can’t be beat.
Karinaa month agoThe Merger Hotel has undeniable historic charm and I understand why it gets strong reviews, but our stay revealed maintenance problems worth knowing about before you book. We set the AC to 65 but the room temperature never dropped below 76, and it honestly felt even warmer than that. The humidity was so bad we were sweating in our own room. The bathroom showed clear signs of moisture damage, including water on the floor and raised bubbling on the ceiling and walls. Cleanliness was also a problem. The room had visible dust throughout and hair left in the bathroom from previous guests. One of the outlets did not work. When we called the front desk, they explained they could not move us to another room because the hotel was full due to a holiday event, which is understandable. I do want to recognize Mr. Abel, who found us a fan and genuinely did his best to help with the very limited resources he had. My honest takeaway is that this is a beautiful building from the 1800s that needs real investment in upkeep. I hope management reads these reviews and prioritizes maintenance, because the property has the potential to match its reputation.
