  Initially we thought we wouldn't go on a tour since a school field trip booked the entire morning. But we decided to hang around get a coffee and then booked the standard tour for 11am. We went down in the mineshaft and then it was a self guided tour which was pretty cool as you could explore completely at your own pace. The mine atmosphere was very pleasant and there were plenty of entertaining displays as well as two included tours on trolleys where you could see what the miners saw in the mine. Overall a very cool experience that I would highly recommend.

  As a former miner in a coal mine, I was happy to explore this Strataca with my wife and one of my sons. While a coal mine is very different (I would argue much more complex and dangerous) from a salt mine, I still appreciate the ability to give my family an idea about how it feels 600 feet underground. Suggestions: We were on a tight schedule and arrived well before the opening of the museum hoping we could be in the first shift to visit the mine. We almost left as it turned out that the first available visit was 2 hours later since a school had booked the first available slots. It would be great to have some flexibility to accommodate such walk-in cases. Furthermore, more exhibition space and a caffe above ground would make it a bit easier to for walks to wait for 2 hours. The exhibits below ground at times felt jumbled -- it was interesting, but maybe not as well structured as I would have liked. It seemed that we were constantly hopping between different aspects of the mine. I would have loved to have two comprehensive sections about the geology, the engineering, and the use of the salt. Those topics were covered, but it seemed piecemeal. I could do with fewer "high lights" like the underground cars miners used. Finally, it would be nice to have a big area that simply "is" without much exhibition. An area in which visitors can squint a bit and get a feel for where they are. It seemed that almost everywhere there was some exhibit or placard. Nevertheless, we very much enjoyed the visit 5/5 are well deserved.

  One of the best underground mine tours we’ve taken. Allow about 2 hours. Museum is in the mine itself 650’ below ground. You can see it at your own pace. Employees are there to answer questions and make sure you see everything. There is a 30 minute tram ride included with your ticket that will take you back into the mine itself. A hidden gem for sure!

  We dropped by to escape the summer heat and found the mines to be quite cooled. I enjoyed reading up on many legacy artifacts (especially the excavators) and watching the handful of videos. There was a unique section for storage/films and I would like to see more of a behind the scene for them. While the train was unfortunately broken (and no refunds on that section), I enjoyed the dark tour.The main light source was from the car, so that made it difficult to capture many items - both trash and salt alike. It would be nice to do an even spread of light. I also enjoyed taking a piece of salt home.

  What a fun experience! We love any kind of Mine or Cavern and always try to visit any we can while we are traveling, and this salt mine did not disappoint. There was a lot to see in the underground museum, the mine was used during the war time for ration storage, and it has been used by the motion picture industry to store old film. The Dark Ride, and The Salt Safari were both a lot of fun, and informative. Aaron was our guide and we lucked out and got the Dark Ride all to ourselves. The whole staff were all so nice, and fun. We even found out they are Harvest Hosts.
