My stay at the Thompson Hotel on the San Antonio River Walk was absolutely exceptional. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was elevated, warm, and welcoming. The property is right across some construction so take note, but what truly made this experience unforgettable was the service. Jaay, our server, was beyond kind—attentive, professional, and genuinely thoughtful. It’s rare to encounter someone who serves with both excellence and has heart. The food was excellent quality and full of flavor—but the service is what will bring me back.
At a high level, this property is certainly not worth the money. We only stayed here because that's where the wedding room block was provided. The hotel tries to position itself as the one of luxury, but all things considered, it's not that nice. Rooms are small, beds are not that comfortable, service is hardly friendly, food is terrible. Valet took 20 minutes to get the car, and that's for $60/night. Room keys deactivated 10 minutes before check-out, and we had to run back and forth to be able to get into the room to get our stuff. Staff does not seem to care to make your experience better or make up for any shortcomings. The only nice thing about this hotel is probably the pool deck. Although, they seem to not clean the pool area at all until the day after. When I would go there in the mornings, there would be dirty dishes and glasses sitting out in the bar area, random magazines and an occasional used towel lying around. This property should be Category 3 at best, not 5. Overall disappointed and regretting that I spent almost $800 for just 2 nights here; total waste of money - never again.
Cami charged my pregnant wife and me $25 for extending our stay from 11:30 to noon for a “late checkout”. What kind of service is that? Being a Hyatt Rewards Member for so long, staying at Impressions Resort in Isla Mujeres I hold Hyatt to a WAY HIGHER standard then that. Rooms were okay. Definitely some lawsuit potentials lol as the floor gets very slippery with jagged corners jutting out. AC wouldn’t cool past 70 degrees. Best thing about this hotel is the location and calmness because it’s empty. Housekeeping was also very on top of keeping the room clean. Overall you can tell my review is honest and very biased because this front desk lady had to hold her power over me for $25 for 30 minutes. Cami didn’t even know what to charge me for 30 minutes is what’s the funny part lol. She looked confused I was asking for just 30 minutes but still had to wield her sword. More power to her, glad Hyatt is $25 richer.
This hotel is great! We were treated kindly & offered champagne at check in — You don’t even have to leave it, matter of fact we had more fun at the hotel then on the river walk! Why ? — Pool, pool bar, roof top views, restaurant and dj plated great music last weekend like a club scene but classy tables to eat , bar to chill at - ask for Christina ! She was INCREDIBLE & hard worker !! Also Alex at the pool bar was great on our first day we got meet her , Korbin at the front door greeted us promptly to help! & The fridge in our room wasn’t cool & they brought us up an extra one for our treats! The spa is beautiful small but quaint they are doing remodeling in the relaxation waiting room currently . It is quiet and they don’t tolerate any noise during their treatment session! ( I enjoyed the steam room , sauna , and complimentary scrub for my shower after ) also they had beautiful heating wraps & rolled ice towels ( perfection) The only thing Mia from this hotel I’d say is a hot tub outside as it got chilly at night outside by the pool other than that it was fabulous & high class
My five star review is for the service we recieved from Kevin Friday April 24. He made our entire experience very welcoming and made up for the lack of service in other areas of the hotel. I can’t say enough about this gentleman we travel all the time with our toddlers to 5 star properties Worldwide and I haven’t had this great of a check in, welcoming endeavor in quite some time. We have two toddlers and it’s quite overwhelming instead of judging he made the process so convenient and made us felt at ease. In addition it appeared he was multi tasking and handling other roles with a smile on his face my husband and I were blown away at his positive attitude and just want to say how rare it is to find hospitality of this level. We will be returning because of Kevin. The entire food program needs to be revamped. One of the worst I’ve ever experienced. It’s limiting guest spend :) We would have spent a lot more had the menus and cuisine been decent. The smashburger was the only hit. Valet is understaffed. Rooms were very clean and tidy and the water machines with sparkling as an option are an excellent choice.
