Zach Schramm2 months agoHad such a great experience at Iron Cactus Mexican Restaurant and Margarita Bar on the River Walk! Jennifer was our server and she was absolutely fabulous — friendly, attentive, and made the whole meal even better. The strawberry margaritas were top notch, the tableside guacamole is an absolute must-order, and the Baja fish tacos were excellent. Of course I had to add a side of fries because… boy dinner! I also really appreciated that they don’t use seed oils and focus on fresh ingredients — you can genuinely taste the difference. Perfect River Walk spot with great food, drinks, and atmosphere. Would definitely come back!

I decided to stop by Iron Cactus for dinner, and overall, it was a very enjoyable experience. If you’re looking for authentic, homemade-style Mexican food, this may not be the place you’re expecting. However, if you’re looking for a modern, American-style Mexican grill with great flavors, quality ingredients, and a fun atmosphere, Iron Cactus definitely delivers. What really stood out to me was the customer service. My waitress, Izzy, was absolutely amazing. She was friendly, attentive, and took the time to recommend different menu options, which made the experience even better. Great service can make a big difference, and she definitely helped make the meal enjoyable. The outdoor seating area was another highlight. Being able to sit outside, enjoy the breeze, and relax while having dinner created a great atmosphere and added to the overall experience. The food was good, the service was excellent, and the environment was welcoming. If you’re in town and looking for a solid Mexican grill experience with outstanding customer service, I’d recommend giving Iron Cactus a try. I’ll definitely stop by again the next time I’m in the area.
Alan Hottman3 weeks agoPerched along the San Antonio River Walk, Iron Cactus offers a lively atmosphere with scenic waterfront views and a polished presentation that immediately sets expectations high. The dining room can be a bit noisy during busy periods, but the vibrant energy fits the setting well. Every dish arrived piping hot and beautifully plated, showcasing the restaurant's flair for bold flavors and visual appeal. The Chile Con Queso proved to be an excellent way to begin the meal. The blend of melted Mexican cheeses struck that elusive middle ground between silky and substantial, avoiding both the watery consistency that plagues lesser versions and the overly thick texture that can weigh down a dip. The roasted chiles woven throughout the queso added subtle smoky notes and pockets of savory depth that kept each bite interesting, while the blue corn chips provided a crisp, hearty vehicle for each scoop. It was a simple appetizer executed with care and balance. The Bone-In Stuffed Pork Chop was the star of the evening. The chop was tender, moist, and cooked with precision, allowing the rich three-chile cream cheese stuffing to complement rather than overwhelm the pork. While my particular chop carried a bit more fat than I would have preferred, the overall flavor was outstanding. The accompanying green chile bacon mashed potatoes were exceptionally flavorful, creamy, and perfectly prepared, while the broccoli retained just the right amount of firmness from careful steaming. Portions were satisfying without being excessive, and although the prices lean slightly toward the higher end, they felt consistent with what one would expect for a quality River Walk dining experience. Aside from the extra fat on the pork chop, there was little to criticize, and I would gladly order both dishes again.
Jacob Floresa month agoMy first experience with Iron Cactus was far above expectations! The service was very friendly and equally accommodating. The menu had a diverse offering which made it difficult to narrow down my choice with so many delicious options. The food came out quick, and the quality was top notch! The Lobster Tacos and the Brisket Enchaladas are an absolute must! I'll definitely be coming back as often as I'm in town.
Amber Gray-Kurz2 months agoRestaurant is conveniently located on the River Walk. There was a moderate wait but the experience ended up being worth it. We ordered the table side guacamole which was unique, interactive and the guacamole was fresh. The waitress was visibly busy but kept a genuinely friendly demeanor. They were busy and seemed to be understaffed because the speed of the kitchen was drastically affected.
