We’ve been coming to Hewing Hotel for years for weekend getaways and it continues to be one of our favorite places to stay in Minneapolis. The atmosphere is what really sets it apart. The elevated industrial architecture and restored warehouse feel give the hotel a ton of character while still feeling comfortable and upscale. The rooftop sauna, hot tub, and bar are fantastic and honestly make it easy to spend an entire weekend at the hotel without feeling like you need to leave. It’s just a genuinely fun place to relax. We also really enjoy the restaurant, especially breakfast. On our most recent visit, the breakfast sandwich and chia pudding were both excellent. The location is another big plus because it’s within walking distance of a great little shopping district that always has fun places to explore. Consistently great experiences, and we’ll definitely keep coming back.

The staff were very friendly, and the hotel is just a 10-minute walk from the arena. The room was nice, and the rooftop sauna and pool were a great bonus. However, my room (314) had a constant earthquake-like vibration, which I think came from a nearby washing machine. It wasn’t noisy, but I would avoid this room if you’re looking for a peaceful stay. The cleaners were lovely and very attentive. During weekend brunch, the breakfast menu has to be enjoyed in the lobby or in your room. Overall, a very nice hotel.

This was a very nice hotel. The room was very comfortable and clean. All the staff were fantastic throughout the stay. Rooftop bar area is small and crowded, the downstairs bar got packed Saturday night. The food was good, but the menu is a bit too eclectic and overpriced. I was a bit leery upon arrival because of the ladies club across the street; however, the neighborhood turned out to be safe for walking with tons of options close by.

I brought my mom to high tea at the Hewing for Christmas. I had high expectations and was very disappointed. The lobby atmosphere is Nordic and cozy. But they sat us right in front of the door and they kept the doors open most of the time… we kept getting up to close them. It was about 13 degrees outside. The fireplace was broken and the front desk didn’t offer any help in getting it fixed. Tea was at 11, we didn’t get our first cup of tea until after 11:30 and no water even until 11:20. The food, once we got it (well after noon), was very good. The servers were extremely nice, but we hardly saw them and the people next to us were pretty sure the entire Tea had been forgotten about. The restaurant and lobby were not busy otherwise. For the price and compared to other high teas I’ve been to locally, absolutely do not recommend. Much better value elsewhere. Which is unfortunate because it’s a gorgeous venue. I’m typically a very patient, understanding person when it comes to the service industry, but this was awful.

My employer booked about a dozen rooms at this hotel a few days ago when staying in MN. Upon arrival I was asked to provide a credit card for a very standard $50 incidentals deposit. A few minutes after checking into my rom, my credit card alerted me to a $500 transaction from the Hewing Hotel. I called the front desk and said that I thought there was an error, to the tune of $450 extra on my card, and they said i was charged for the room and also had a deposit held. They said there was nothing they could do about it (which is ridiculous). My employer paid for the room already, and at half that rate. The front desk denied that fact and said to talk to my employer. I did. It turns out all of us were charged twice for our rooms in the exact same manner and at twice the agreed rate and without ever being told or shown an amount. After lots of calls and arguing, this first error was finally refunded by the hotel. But only after lots of effort from all of us. Then, later the same day, the hotel once again decided to charge all of our cards again, after the first refund, for basically the same amount (less the deposit). Some people in my party were charged three times for a room that was already paid for and at double the agreed rate! They still wont admit this error when I call. The last person I spoke with claims my card has never been charged. I had to resort to reversing unauthorized charges with my credit card because the hotel wouldn't admit its mistake. I could not recommend this hotel at any level as they are acting like thieves disguised as hipsters. Beware of how they handle your credit card information. In fact just stay somewhere else instead. A stupidly simple error has been exasperated so beyond reason its hard for me to understand. This is the first first negative review i've ever left in my life.
