As avid concert goers, we’ve been to venues all over the region, and our first trip to Heartland Arena for Cheap Trick and Styx was honestly a pretty solid experience overall. We had 3rd row floor seats and came away impressed with a lot of what this venue offers. First off — free parking. That alone deserves appreciation these days. It’s first come, first serve, but there was plenty of it and most spots were reasonably close to the entrance, which made getting in and out much less stressful than larger venues in Kansas City or Tulsa. Ingress into the arena was probably the biggest logistical weak point. The entry points felt a little narrow and bottlenecked at times, but to their credit, things still moved along fairly well. That said, I do wonder how smooth it would go with a completely sold-out crowd. Inside, the arena has a really unique setup. The concourse is completely open to the seating/show area instead of being boxed off from the action like most arenas. It actually gave the place a more connected, energetic atmosphere and was a nice change from the typical concrete tunnel experience. There were plenty of vendors, and every staff member we interacted with was friendly and helpful. Concourse space did get a bit cramped once the crowd filled in, especially with people still filtering through the entry lines, but it never became unbearable. Concession and drink prices were also noticeably more reasonable than what we’re used to paying at larger market venues, which was appreciated. The floor seating itself was better than expected. There was a fair amount of leg room between rows, which matters during longer shows. The chairs were a little narrow, but still moderately comfortable. Most importantly, sightlines were excellent. Even from the floor, views were unobstructed and close enough to really feel immersed in the performance. The only real negative of the night was one overzealous private security staff member during Cheap Trick’s set. She repeatedly tried to stop people from standing near the front barrier despite the band clearly feeding off that energy. Anyone familiar with Cheap Trick knows Rick Nielsen practically lives to throw handfuls of picks into the crowd and interact with fans up front. Oddly enough, those same rules suddenly weren’t enforced during Styx’s set, so the inconsistency made it feel more like a personal power trip than an actual venue policy issue. That annoyance aside, we genuinely enjoyed our experience at Heartland Arena. The venue has a more relaxed, approachable feel than many larger arenas, and it still delivered a great concert atmosphere. We’d absolutely come back for another show.
Witnessed a fantastic Phil Wickham concert. The arena was clean, restrooms well stocked, the event was great! Leaving the parking lot was, however, quite the adventure, took 10 minutes to get out of the parking lot, only to wait in line at the street entrance! Maybe some traffic control for the big events would be helpful and appreciated!
The handicapped seating is wonderful. Plenty of room for rollator walkers and wheelchairs. Good variety of food and beverages. Not a bad seat in the house. Security and staff are all friendly and helpful. Plenty of parking. Large clean restrooms.
Our friend bought tickets to a show for all of us on a third party site. Tickets were fake and we could not get in. After talking with the arena office, they were able to get us tickets and we were able to see the show that we had paid for and scammed. Most places I’m sure would not have help out like that. The show was awesome and we are very grateful. A huge thank you to the staff who have been so nice, helpful and understanding.
Security was useless last night. Many fans were disappointed with inability to see bands due to drunken disrespectful frat boys in our section. The children sitting behind them only got obscenities and they continued to block their view. They were asked nicely from the people behind and to the side to sit down. We only got "we paid our money too" and "the rest of you can stand up". When reported multiple times to security they stated there is nothing we can do. This led to an unpleasant time and could have led to violence as the were very drunk and were sold many drinks when obviouslythey had had enough. Boys your Momma would be proud of you for being so disrespectful to the people around you. Security a little presence in the sections when complaints are made would have gone a long way!
