Leigh Merchant3 weeks agoFabulous museum building, siting and artifacts. Enjoyed spending time with the three totem carvers. Only complaint was the pedestrian nature of the food on offer in the Cafe. Nothing local, pretty much off the shelf from Costco pr worse. As an example, the only seafood on offer was deep fried, panto encrusted frozen cod (we think) from a box probably packed in China. Extremely disappointing given that this area is known for the quality of its seafood. Its like the sourcing of ingredients and menu were compiled by a bureaucrat in Ottawa and imposed on the locals.
Arnab Majumdar3 weeks agoThis has to be one of the best museums I have been to in Canada. I am a typical museum guy who loves to spend hours and hours getting lost in museums. The level of history, detail and cultural representation of Haida Gwaii here is magnificent.
Krista3 years agoThis was our first stop in Haida Gwaii so that we could better understand the history and culture prior to visiting the towns. The museum was beautifully laid out, and so informative. We particularly loved the timeline on the wall, and the documentary playing on the 1969 pole raising. The collaborative art piece by students on the residential schools was incredibly powerful and moving. I think this is a stop that everyone should have on their list if they visit Haida Gwaii.
Kay Sa year agoBeautiful canoes, Totem Poles being carved, and incredible Haida artifacts within the museum. (No photos allowed within the museum). A must see on Haida Gwaii!
Jasleen Gill8 years agoAwesome place to learn about Haida people and their culture. The tour guide was so knowledgeable and showed us around all the totem poles describing their history. There's a store and an amazing cafe in there too for those wanting to quench their shopping and stomach hungers.
