About this venue

With the Alamodome, you get the advantage of both a convention center and a dome without the drawbacks of either. Recently renovated, the Alamodome now has expanded concourses, which improved the sound quality, and all new video walls. It is the preferred venue for many tradeshows, conventions, concerts, and events in San Antonio, such as Monster Jam, Disney on Ice, and the UTSA Roadrunner football team. The Alamodome was the home of the NBA World Champion San Antonio Spurs from 1993 to 2002 and hosted the NCAA Men’s Final Four in 1998, 2004, 2008, and 2018. Additionally, the Valero Alamo Bowl takes place at the Alamodome every year in December.

The Experience: I’ve been waiting 15 years to take my wife to Monster Jam at the Alamodome for our anniversary, remembering the high-energy, decorated, action-packed shows of my childhood. Sadly, this was a massive disappointment. We paid $400 for seats and left halfway through. The Logistics: Parking/Access: Paid $40 for parking and had to walk 2 miles in 90-degree heat. There were no water stations along the way. Elevators: Despite the long walk and the heat, elevators were restricted only to handicapped guests. Climbing four flights of stairs after that trek was exhausted and difficult. The Seats: The seats are extremely narrow and "crammed" together. If you aren't very thin, you will be uncomfortable. We also had issues with people in our section trying to push everyone down to squeeze in extra guests/kids who didn't seem to have assigned seats. The Show: Lack of Action: Where was the "Monster" in Monster Jam? There were very few cars to crush and not enough live action on the floor. It felt like they were just marketing toys and showing everything on the big screens rather than providing a live experience. Decorations: There was zero effort in the "theme." No decorations to make it feel like a special event—just an empty stadium with trucks. Merchandise: Only one vendor was selling shirts, and they were sold out of all adult sizes within 30 minutes of the show starting. We couldn't even get a souvenir. The Only Positive: The facility and the restrooms were clean. Summary: Unless you are okay with a 2-mile hike in the heat and sitting in cramped seats to watch a screen, I wouldn't recommend this. It’s a shadow of what it used to be. Very sad to have spent our 16th anniversary this way.

I visited the Alamo down for a graduation. I was very disappointed that you are not allowed to take in medium size purses. There are free lockers that you can use to store your larger purse. They are located downstairs, there is no elevator access to them. For someone with a hip injury it is very hard to go up and down all those flights of stairs. Otherwise, the staff was very pleasant, very helpful and went out of their way to make you feel comfortable.

Had an amazing time at the Alamodome watching Post Malone perform! The concert was incredible, the atmosphere was electric, and the venue handled such a huge crowd really well. Great seating, fun energy, and an unforgettable night with friends and music. Definitely one of the best concert experiences I’ve had in San Antonio!

Went to the NCAA College Football Alamo Bowl game TCU vs USC. The game was excellent. Entry in to the Alamo Dome was quick and easy. Just make sure to pre-purchace you tickets online from one of the many ticket sellers and have the QR or barcode ready when making entry.

I simply just believe the center hung video board needs to be much bigger. And Considering UTSA is the primary tenant of the stadium I feel there's not enough UTSA style decor in the stadium. UTSA is a growing football program they don't need an on campus stadium when they have the Alamo dome less than 20 minutes from the campus. Like U know how during the Alamo dome the stadium is covered in Valero Alamo dome designs all over the brick and They Have proven they can put 50k plus in it and as it grows and certain things change the crowds will consistently be larger at games. I actually love this stadium and UTSA playing here just feels so San Antonio I don't know how to explain it, but the Center Hung Video Board needs to be much much bigger. (First Photo) I also feel like the walls behind each of the 4 hanging video boards is a nice place to start with UTSA decor for UTSA games. Murals Of players, Bowl Wins, Unique Records all of that stuff could decorate the walls behind each of the 4 video boards. The walls I'm referring to are where the Roof Supports are that separate the 4 levels. (First Photo) (Second Photo) (Third Photo) I mean lets be real The Roadrunners Don't even Pay rent. The revenue generation is only going to get better. While the team is growing the venue allows for different capacity configurations which is the other thing. Instead of tarped off upper decks with the black tarp for certain games why not. I noticed something at the moody center I saw on tv for UT. Their upper deck is tarped off but they have projections on the tarp. (Fourth photo) During some of the lower attendance games we could have 4 large tarps over the upper decks almost like additional LED RIBBONS and VIDEO boards all in one. Different animations like for touchdowns and first downs and interceptions along with live scores of the game or other games. Then Of course for larger attended games you just remove the tarps. I just feel like its projecting for UTSA to become a permanent team at the alamodome so why not go all in on them.
