Karina Swanson4 months agoTo start off, food was great! Our party enjoyed everything that was ordered. My lobster bisque had a significant amount of lobster and the Caesar salad was really good. My husband got the wagyu nachos and the Beecher Mac n cheese, very tasty. The reason for the 1 star is the service. It was definitely not great. My husband didn’t get his coke refilled, I had to ask for it to get refilled. We felt like we were being rushed the ENTIRE time. We came in at 7pm and left a little after close, 9:10. During the entire dinner I think we got asked for our food to be removed 15 times. Every time we would say we are still working on it. Server came to remove our plates, and started grabbing the fries we were still munching on. I said “oh we are still working on that thank you.” 10 minutes later he comes up again and asks if he can take the fries. Again said “we are still working.” Our entire table was APPALLED, when 1 minute later the busser goes passed our table and snatches the fries. No “can I take this, are you done?” He just took them. We sat there in shock. It makes sense that they give you crappy service because the 20% tip is automatically taken out so they don’t have to try. My husband and I both worked in the restaurant industry as bartenders and servers for over 8 years. And let me tell you, what we experienced tonight was not normal. And that’s no way I would ever treat my customers. The owner seriously needs to look over the staff and consider some major changes. We won’t be back, and we’ll tell our friends not to come here either. No wonder it was EMPTY on a Friday night.
Meng Yu Che5 months agoStopped in for the best whiskey selection on the Eastside (IMHO) and had a wonderful experience. Ryan, the bartender, was incredibly helpful in recommending whiskeys and cocktails based on my taste preferences. The general manager, Tim, was equally engaging and shared upcoming whiskey tastings/classes that could expand my whiskey tasting journey. Ordered the Wagyu Steak Nachos which were incredibly delicious and the staff were very attentive and prioritized making my entire experience a great one. Highly recommend to anyone who is looking for a hard to find whiskey or are starting their whiskey journey and needing inspiration. Plus, there are wonderful cocktails and wine, which makes it a great date night option.
Bruce Morrisa year agoJust phenomenal. From the drinks and apps to mains and desserts, you cannot go wrong at Whiskey by JH. If this is one of your first times at a JH restaurant, get their legendary burger and coconut cream pie. Otherwise, get whatever sounds good and be prepared for an intimate experience accompanied by an awesome wait staff. Shout out to John B for keeping my partner and I engaged on our anniversary dinner
Deniz Kilicci2 years agoStarted the night with whiskey tasting and that bartender sure knows his whiskey’s. Can get you a little tipsy if your dinner is to follow. Now for the food, everything served was exceptional minus the steak. The seafood was well presented and tasted great. The soup was simply fantastic. I could have had another serving. The steak unfortunately was very rare, and not medium rare as requested. While I still enjoyed the steak, unfortunately I had to cut away the blue rare sections. Overall was an enjoyable dinner and btw the staff were great. Very attentive.
Lily3 years agoWhiskey by John Howie is in the same area/right next to the Steakhouse. This place is not loud and great for intimate conversations. For a Friday night it was about 65% full. Lots of great drink options. The menu is a tablet with 28 pages. Like their sister restaurants there is also a flat 20% service charge. For two people, got the skewers, Brussel sprouts and steak frites (not pictured), which was enough food for two. I got the brown butter high drink per the waiters recommendation. Tasted like a smooth old fashion with a hint of sweetness. Parking is validated for 6 hours. Bathroom is outside the restaurant.
