Kristin Whalen6 months agoOur daughter has been dancing with Miss Amy since she was 3 years old (before Ballet Kalamazoo officially opened). She creates an amazing environment where not only do the teachers support the students, but the students support one another in such a great way. In terms of Ballet, she’s been able to compete in several YAGP competitions, attend several prestigious intensives for Joffrey Chicago, Las Vegas, Miami, and Geneva as well as the Royal Danish Ballet. In each, she was awarded scholarships and even a spot in a full time trainee program for Joffrey in New York City at 14 years old. It is really a special place!
Blake Upston3 months agoOur daughter did ballet here for 10 years. Amy and her company are amazing. They make you feel more like family. My daughter gained a lot of confidence. I highly recommend them to any family looking for a great ballet company.
Joe Kutcheraa year agoWhen we moved to Kalamazoo in 2021, we signed our two girls up for classes at Ballet Kalamazoo. Not only have they learned ballet, but also teamwork, poise, and stage presence while participating in the beautifully produced performances of The Nutcracker, Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, and Snow White. Along the way, they have made great friends. Many thanks to all of Ballet Kalamazoo’s instructors for teaching our daughters so much! Bravo to Miss Amy for leading the charge. Also, on a selfish note, I very much appreciate the warm, well-lit lobby with WIFI for parents, which makes catching up on work so much easier than waiting in a car before a soccer game.
Briana Asmusa year agoAs an adult, I have both taken classes and taught specialty classes here. I have taken classes with several different instructors over several years. I believe Ballet Kalamazoo has the most informed and quality instructors of any studio locally, and the atmosphere encourages emotional and physical growth for all ages. Amy’s studio has a local reputation for being a kind, welcoming environment. I have personally known many of the families whose children attend this studio, and they note how Ballet Kalamazoo differs from other studios-- it is supportive of the whole child while maintaining high standards. Amy herself has trained with several professional companies and knows both knows dance and the pedagogical aspects of teaching it well.
Samantha Anderson5 years agoMy daughters have been dancing with Amy since she opened her studio. Her taste and creativity are always impeccable. I have always been pleased with the content of the classes and how they are taught. Amy is professional and teaches in a way that is age appropriate for her various groups but also encourages respect for each other, the studio, and the art of ballet. Every year I am so impressed by the recitals Ballet Kalamazoo produces and how each class shines within the greater whole and it all works together. Amy reacted to Covid restrictions quickly and provided classes at an extreme discount to keep her dancers engaged. She was able to provide master classes, which my daughter loved. Ballet Kalamazoo has my complete trust when it comes to the safety of my daughters during this time. I have always found Amy to be very responsive and open in her communications and thorough. I recommend this studio very highly!
