Sarajevo's primary improvement area should focus on standardizing accessibility infrastructure across all business tourism touchpoints and establishing comprehensive information systems to support travelers with diverse needs. Physical Infrastructure Accessibility: Implement a systematic accessibility audit and remediation program for historic districts, starting with priority business tourism routes connecting hotels, conference venues, and cultural attractions. Install temporary or permanent ramp systems at key heritage sites in Baščaršija, similar to initiatives in Prague's Old Town, where modular ramps preserve historic character while improving access. Develop designated accessible walking routes with smooth paving, clear signposting, and rest areas to navigate the hilly terrain, modeled after San Francisco's accessible route mapping program. Partner with property owners to incentivize accessibility upgrades through tax credits or grants, measuring success through the percentage of business venues meeting WCAG 2.1 AA standards within 24 months. Inclusive Transportation and Accommodation Services: Expand the low-floor tram and accessible bus network to cover all major business districts and tourist areas, establishing a target of 80% accessible public transport coverage within three years. Create an accessibility certification program for hotels and venues, similar to Australia's Accessible Tourism Accreditation, with tiered ratings displayed on booking platforms. Develop partnerships with accessible taxi and ride-sharing services to guarantee on-demand transportation for business travelers with mobility needs, tracking service availability and response times as key performance indicators. Information Accessibility: Launch a comprehensive digital accessibility portal in multiple languages providing detailed venue accessibility information, accessible route maps, and real-time service availability, following the Barcelona Accessible Tourism model. Implement mandatory accessibility information standards for all business venues listed on official tourism platforms, including photos, measurements, and specific facility details. Create pre-arrival accessibility planning services through the DMO, offering personalized itineraries and advance coordination with venues, measuring success through user satisfaction scores and repeat business event bookings. Business Services for Travelers with Special Needs: Establish an accessibility excellence training program for conference venue staff, event planners, and hospitality workers, certifying at least 500 professionals within 18 months. Develop standardized accessibility packages for business events that include assistive technology, sign language interpretation, accessible transportation, and dietary accommodations, making these easily bookable through a centralized system. Create an accessibility advisory committee comprising travelers with disabilities and accessibility experts to review new developments and provide ongoing recommendations, ensuring that Sarajevo's infrastructure investments consistently prioritize inclusive design from the planning stage forward.
