How they're improving

IMPLEMENT COMPREHENSIVE MICRO-MOBILITY PROGRAM: Launch a bike-sharing and e-scooter system along the lakeside promenade and town center, similar to Zurich's PubliBike network or Geneva's e-scooter integration. Install 8-10 docking stations at key locations (train station, 2m2c convention center, major hotels, attraction points) with 100+ bikes and 50+ e-scooters. Measurable outcome: Achieve 500+ daily rentals during peak event seasons and reduce short-distance taxi trips by 30% within 12 months. 2. How they're improving

While Montreux demonstrates strong accessibility infrastructure and inclusive practices scoring 82/100, the destination should focus on enhancing information accessibility and formalizing inclusivity standards to achieve outstanding performance. Key improvement recommendations include:

Develop a comprehensive digital accessibility portal providing detailed, multilingual information about accessible routes, facilities, and services throughout Montreux. This portal should include interactive maps showing wheelchair-accessible paths between venues, hotels, and attractions, virtual tours of conference facilities highlighting accessibility features, and downloadable accessibility guides in multiple formats (PDF, audio, large print). Example: Follow the model of Helsinki's AccessibleHelsinki.fi platform that provides detailed accessibility ratings for venues and routes. This would enable travelers with diverse needs to plan their visit confidently and reduce on-site navigation challenges.
Implement formal accessibility certification programs for hotels, venues, and service providers to establish consistent standards across the destination. Partner with recognized organizations like the Swiss Accessibility Certification or international standards (ISO 21542) to audit and certify business event facilities. Require participating venues to meet specific criteria for physical access, sensory accommodations, and staff training. Example: Create a 'Montreux Accessible Business Events' quality label similar to Barcelona's 'Barcelona Accessible Tourism' certification, ensuring that certified providers meet verified accessibility standards and giving event planners confidence in service quality.
Enhance pre-event accessibility consultation services by establishing a dedicated accessibility coordinator within the DMO who works directly with event planners to conduct site visits, assess specific requirements, and coordinate customized accessibility solutions. This service should include detailed accessibility audits of proposed venues, coordination of specialized equipment rental (hearing loops, accessible presentation tools), and liaison with accessible transportation providers. Measure success through client satisfaction surveys and repeat business from organizations prioritizing inclusive events.
Expand accessible business services by ensuring all major business hotels offer accessible executive lounges, meeting rooms with adjustable furniture, and assistive technology for business travelers. Partner with coworking spaces to guarantee accessible facilities for extended business stays. Example: Pilot a program with three flagship hotels to create 'Accessible Business Suites' featuring height-adjustable desks, accessible bathroom facilities, visual alert systems, and high-contrast room features, marketing these specifically to corporate clients with accessibility requirements.
Improve wayfinding and information systems throughout the destination by installing tactile paving at key intersections, audio guidance systems at major venues, and high-contrast, multilingual signage using universal design principles. Ensure all public information displays include accessible formats and that emergency information is available in multiple sensory modes. This infrastructure investment would benefit all visitors while specifically supporting those with visual, hearing, or cognitive accessibility needs, demonstrating Montreux's commitment to universal design in business tourism.

How they're improving

Establish a Dedicated Business Traveler Medical Concierge Service: Create a 24/7 multilingual hotline specifically for event attendees and business travelers that provides direct coordination with Riviera-Chablais Hospital, Clinique La Prairie, and CHUV, similar to services offered in Singapore's medical tourism program. This service should pre-register event participants, provide medical facility maps with transport times, and offer telemedicine consultations for minor issues. Measurable outcome: 95% of business travelers aware of medical resources within 24 hours of arrival, reducing emergency response confusion by 40%. 2. Develop a Digital Safety Information Platform for Event Organizers: Launch a comprehensive mobile app and web portal providing real-time safety updates, emergency contact numbers, nearest medical facilities with GPS navigation, and multilingual safety briefings, modeled after Dubai's Smart City safety initiatives. Include integration with event registration systems to automatically deliver customized safety information based on attendee location and event schedule. Measurable outcome: 90% of event attendees access safety information before arrival, increasing confidence scores by 30%. 3. Implement Enhanced Crowd Management Protocols for Major Events: Formalize and document security procedures specifically for high-attendance events like Montreux Jazz Festival, including designated safe zones, increased visible security presence, and real-time crowd monitoring systems similar to those used at major convention centers in Barcelona. Provide event organizers with standardized security briefing materials and emergency evacuation plans. Measurable outcome: Zero security incidents during major events and 100% of event organizers receiving pre-event security briefings. 4. Create Transparent Emergency Response Time Documentation: Publish verified average response times for police, fire, and medical emergency services across different areas of Montreux, similar to transparency standards in Scandinavian cities. Include this data in event planning materials and on the tourism website with quarterly updates. Establish service level agreements guaranteeing maximum response times for conference venues. Measurable outcome: Published response time data available to 100% of event planners, increasing booking confidence by 25%.

Business dress code

For business events in Montreux, Switzerland, professional attire is expected with a sophisticated European sensibility that balances formality with understated elegance. Men should opt for well-tailored dark suits with dress shirts and conservative ties, while women should wear business suits, elegant dresses, or coordinated separates in neutral or refined colors. Given Montreux's location on Lake Geneva with its temperate climate, layering is advisable as temperatures can vary between indoor venues and outdoor lakeside settings, particularly during the cooler months from October to April. The Swiss business culture values discretion and quality over flashiness, so avoid overly casual attire, loud patterns, or excessive jewelry, favoring instead classic, well-maintained clothing and polished shoes. For evening events or galas, particularly during prestigious occasions like events at the Montreux Convention Centre, business formal or cocktail attire is appropriate, with men in dark suits or tuxedos and women in cocktail dresses or evening wear. Always consider that Swiss professionalism emphasizes punctuality and refined presentation, so your attire should reflect respect for these cultural values while being prepared for the destination's lakeside microclimate with potential温度 variations.

Casual dress & local style

For casual attire in Montreux, Switzerland, visitors should embrace smart-casual elegance that reflects the refined yet relaxed Alpine lakeside culture. Swiss locals appreciate a polished, understated aesthetic, so opt for well-fitted, good-quality basics in neutral tones rather than overly casual sportswear or loud patterns. Comfortable walking shoes are a must for exploring the lakefront promenades and hillside areas, with sneakers acceptable if clean and stylish. During summer months (June-August), lighter fabrics work well, but even then, bring layers for cooler lake breezes and mountain excursions. In autumn and spring, expect cooler temperatures requiring light jackets or blazers.
